RECRUITMENT OF NEW TEACHERS BY ABIA STATE GOVERNMENT: GOVERNMENT WILL PUNISH ANYONE INVOLVED IN EXTORTION, FRAUD

Following the directive of the Executive Governor of Abia State, His Excellency, Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, for the recruitment of over 2000 teachers into the Abia State Public Schools, thousands of Abians have expressed interest and willingness to be employed by the government.

As expected, some may, out of desperation fall into the wrong hands of some unpatriotc elements who may have concluded plans and positioned themselves to extort or defraud unsuspecting potential applicants.

In line with the merit-based standard already set by Governor Alex Otti, and in adherence to his explicit directive that the selection process must be very transparent and devoid of hitches, the Ministry of Basic and Post-Basic Education subsequently announced that the guidelines for application shall be made public and that application will be made online.

The planned recruitment is in furtherance to Governor Otti’s far reaching measures geared towards reviving the Abia Education sector that has been in comatose for years. Such measures include, but not limited to, extension of teachers’ retirement age from 60 to 65, approval of Special Welfare Package for Abia Teachers, especially those in rural areas, approval of a monthly running cost for Heads of Schools, Introduction of tuition-free education in our primary and secondary schools, approval for the reconstruction and retrofitting of school buildings across the 17 LGAs of the state , Training of 200 Master Trainers by a reputable consultancy firm, who will subsequently train other teachers etc.

To ensure that the reform, reorganisation and standardisation that’s being vigorously pursued is sustained, applicants, and indeed the general public are enjoined to report any person or group of persons, including government officials who may request monetary inducement of any kind for the employment of potential teachers. Simply put, there’s no room for bribery or compromise of any kind as a condition for the employment of any teacher. Any one caught trying to circumvent the rules and guidelines for the selection as directed by the Governor, shall be made to bear heavy consequences, according to the law.

Everyone should be properly guided.
