The Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs was created in June 1999 to take over the affairs of former Bureau of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs of the Government House. The Ministry has the responsibility to over see all round development of rural/ grassroot Communities in the Stare.

About Us

The Ministry has the mandate to promote peace and good governance in the rural and urban Communities and ensure that grassroot development takes place through effective coordination and supervisory control of the activities of the Local Government Communities and Traditional Rulers in the State. It also coordinates the activities of the 17 Local Government Councils in the State and provides well conducive environment for effective Local Government Administration through proactive decisions and actions on Security matters with the Councils in the State
