The 1999 Constitution is the supreme law of Nigeria and provides a framework for the legal and political systems of Abia State. Section 211 (1) of the Constitution gives power to the Attorney General of Abia state to institute and undertake criminal proceedings against any person before any court of law in Nigeria, take over and continue any such criminal proceedings that may have been instituted by any other authority or person; and discontinue at any stage before judgement is delivered any such criminal proceedings instituted or undertaken by him or any other authority or person.

Administrator General Law, 1962

The Abia State Law Reform and Review Commission Law, 1999
The law aims to set up a Law Reform and Review Commission for Abia State, which is a unit of the Ministry of Justice, to undertake the progressive development and reform of substantive and procedural laws applicable to Abia State by way of codification, revision of state laws and preparing an updated and revised edition of Laws of Abia State
