A state of the art Sickle Diagnosis and Treatment Centre is to be commissioned on Tuesday next week. (20-06-2017) in Umuahia, the capiatal of Abia State.
The Sickle cell care centre was built by the Vicar Hope Foundation, a charity founded by the wife of the governor of Abia State Mrs. Nkechi Ikpeazu.
According to a release from the Foundation, the Governor of Abia State Okezie Ikpeazu will be the Special Guest of Honour while the Wife of the Governor of Imo State Nneoma Rochas Okorocha is the Chief Guest of Honour.
The event is packaged to mark the 2017 World Sickle Cell Awareness day. A programme of event released by the foundation indicates that there will be an awareness procession along the streets of Umuahia to which will culminate in by the tape cutting ceremony at the Sickle Cell Centre which located beside the new Abia Investment House along the Ndume Otuka bypass.
The release further says that the day’s events will be rounded off with a symposium at the Michael Okpara Auditorium Umuahia.
Speaking ahead of the event, the Chief Medical Director of Vicar Hope Foundation, Dr. Chukwuemeka Nwakanma said the battle against the spread of Sickle Cell is one of the principal programmes of the foundation.
He said the foundation hopes to offer subsidized treatment when the centre becomes operational.
