The Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises, Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) Project in establishing sustainable economic enterprises, will target unemployed or underemployed youth ( 18 – 35 years) and women headed households with children aged less than 15 years willing to engage in the production, processing and/or marketing of the selected commodities in their communities. These beneficiaries will be supported through the incubator process to establish or develop their own sustainable agri-enterprise and have decent jobs. It is also expected that these enterprises will be able to generate jobs for other youth and poor women. The incubatees will be trained in business planning, business management and produce marketing, and qualifying ones will be provided a capital stimulation grant to assist them to start-up their business for up to two production cycles in the incubation center, after a short period of apprenticeship in the incubator’s enterprise.
Off course we are aware that the Government of Nigeria desires to diversify the economy, improve rural economy and support clusters of farmers in selected communities with comparative advantage and high potential to increase production, processing and/or marketing of the selected commodities in their communities. In line with these objectives, the IFAD/LIFE-ND Project has provided support to the Federal Government in financing Grants to farmers (incubators) including unemployed youths and women headed households (incubatees) operating in different agri-enterprises in the Niger Delta States in the country. This support is being implemented through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Before the next two weeks will be begin the building of capacities of our incubators and incubatees on various agric-enterprising/enterprenuership skills and knowledge. This will lead to proper empowerment at various rural communities we are working on, day and night.
Its exciting to be part of this reality and to practically see our young folks and some of the poorest of the poor women headed households with children aged less than 15 years, come out of poverty, contribute significantly to Nigeria’s food security drive and live to enjoy sustainable livelihood at our rural areas.
We are determined to take life back to our rural communities – Join us..
