The Hon. Commissioner for Agriculture, Chief Uzo Azubuike has enjoined Butchers in the State to always ensure that peace and unity reign in their various slaughter houses.
Chief Uzo Azubuike , gave the injunction at an interactive meeting he held with slaughter owners and Executive members of the Amalgamated Butchers Association at Aba Town Hall, disclosed that peace is the bedrock for progress in life and destiny, and charged them not to engage in any activity that will breach the already existing peace being enjoyed in the State.
Chief Azubuike, pointed out that the present administration places high premium on the welfare of the butchers in the State, which has informed the resolve of Government in providing conducive and healthy environment for their operations at Omumauzo.
The Agricultural Boss, used the opportunity to inform them of Government policy with regards to proper packaging and covering of slaughtered meat in bags to the various meat markets,he explained that the essence of the directive to properly bag the meats for delivery is to ensure that only wholesome and healthy meats are sold to the public and to checkmate related diseases that may be contacted as a result of undue exposure of slaughtered meat to flies.
Chief Azubuike said that the directive will take effect from the 1st of April, 2018, and solicited for the full cooperation of the executives of the various unions in its enforcement for the health benefit of all.
In his response, the Chairman of the Amalgamated Butchers Association, Chief Emeka Okoh thanked and appreciated Governor Okezie Ikpeazu for his Laudable plan for the Butchers in the State and assured that the Butchers will reciprocate Governement kind gesture by being Law abiding and assured that they will ensure peace reigns in all the Slaughter houses and thanked the Hon. Commissioner for inaugurating a peace committee with the mandate of uniting all the faction groups into the Government reorganized umbrella body which is the Amalgamated Butchers.
The Senior Special Adviser to the Governor on the Abattoir Matters, Ezinwa Uche Ehigo was present at the meeting.
