Department of Water Resources
Abia Integrated WASH Accelerated Program (AIWAP)
- Currently, the state faces huge deficit in clean water supply, sanitation and hygiene hindering improvement in public health and economic growth of the state
- Abia State is one of the economic drivers of the country as it has some of the most gifted people in sub-Saharan Africa which is an essential component that enables economic growth.
- Some of the major sources of water supply are: Private boreholes => for those who can afford it
- Sachet Waters => very expensive (compared to tap water) bad quality water … the poor pays more!
- The availability of steady power supply is key to cost effective operations of water systems hence the need to use clean and renewable energy sources for water schemes in Abia State.
- As part of the efforts to return the WASH Sector back on track, Abia State Government approved the Abia Integrated WASH Accelerated Program (AIWAP).
