The Abia State Ministry of Power and Public Utilities is responsible for delivery of efficient and sustainable services that enables socio-economic development of the state such as power supply, potable water supply, sustainable sanitation and hygiene including other public utilities ( e.g. street lighting, traffic lights etc.)

Our History
- 1991: On the creation of Abia State, the First Executive Governor Late Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu created the ministry and named it Electricity & Water Board.
- 1993: It was renamed Public Utilities and Rural Development.
- 1999: The Governor Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu rebranded it to Ministry of Public Utilities and Water Resources.
- 2023: The Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti OFR. renamed it to Ministry of Power & Public Utilities.
Our Mandate
- Provision of access to electricity for unserved and underserved communities in the state
- Regulation of Abia state electricity market
- Installation & Maintenance of public facilities such as streetlights, traffic lights, Generators, Water Fountains, public toilets, monuments etc
- Regulation of Water Sector
- Development and implementation of Water Policies
