As part of his government’s youth empowerment programme, Abia governor, chief Theodore Orji has given out various packages to youths in the 17 LGAs in the state to make them self reliant.
The items given out to the youths through their various chairmen include 500 tricycles, 5,000 delivery packs, 30,000 phones, 20,000 free lines,1000 chairs, tables and umbrellas each to be given to 50 youths from each of the LGAs.
Handing over the items to the beneficiaries at the Aguiyi Ironsi cenotaph , Umuahia, the governor directed that political party officials, traditional rulers and other stakeholders should be involved in the selection process to ensure that the items reach every strata of the LGAs.
He said that government cannot share money to every person hence the need to translate the gesture to the items to empower unemployed youths in the state.
The governor who also handed over brand new buses he had earlier promised the state chapter of the Nigeria Labour congress, the Trade union congress and the Joint negotiating council said he wishes Abia people advancement in all sectors.
According to him it is not only roads that he is building but empowering people to live healthy lives.
Speaking earlier, the secretary to the state government prof. Mkpa Agu Mkpa said the items are donations from the state governor to empower the youths to be better citizens.
In his remark, the commissioner for Local government and chieftaincy Affairs, Emma Nwabuko said the event marks another milestone of the governor in uplifting the welfare of the people and expressed gratitude to the governor for his kind gesture in uplifting the living standard of the people.
