Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has stated his administration’s commitment to assisting the National Youth Service scheme (NYSC) in the state.
The Governor said this while welcoming the new coordinator of the NYSC in the state Ms Ifon Francisca who called on him.
He described the NYSC as a scheme that provides opportunity for young Nigerians to enjoy the diversities of Nigerian culture, saying that he was a beneficiary of the scheme.
Dr Ikpeazu assured that he will ensure that Abia meets up with the deadline of the inspection of the orientation camp by officials of NYSC and promised the new coordinator of his administration’s determination to make her stay in the state worthwhile.
Earlier, the new state coordinator, Ms Mfon Francisca congratulated the Governor and thanked him for all he has been doing for the scheme in the state including payment of allowances to corps members in the educational system.
She disclosed that Abia is expecting 4,300 corps members in the 2016 batch B orientation exercise which will be in two streams and asked the Governor to assist the scheme as officials of the scheme will be visiting Abia for inspection of the orientation camp.
She thanked the Governor for peaceful atmosphere in the State and called for its sustenance.
