Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has flagged off the recontruction of the 2.65 km old Aba- Umuahia dual carriage way.
Flagging off the road construction which marks the beginning of the activities for his second year, the Governor stated that the project will be achieved on record time.
He stated that his ambition is that after the reconstruction of the age-long deplorable road, no one will return to it till the next 20 years and charged the company to take the project seriously.
Dr Ikpeazu who said that roads fail in the state due to soil texture and the effect of bombardment during the Nigerian civil war assured that Arab contractors will do a quality job.
According to him, the event marks the beginning of better things for the state and disclosed that in the second year of his administration, emphasis will be given to agriculture, critical infrastructure and job creation.
He also said that he expects that many more roads will be handled by the government this year.
Also speaking, the commissioner for Works, Hon Eziuche Ubani explained that the contract was advertized to a number of A grade contractors after which Arab contractors was selected after bidding, maintaining that proper feasibility study was done on the road.
He pointed out that the road is important because in a few months, the Golden Guinea brewery, Umuahia will come back on stream, adding that, it is a major access to the company and appealed to Abians to co-operate with the contractors to enable them deliver on time.
Earlier, the MD Arab Contractors, Osama Mustapha expressed appreciation to the State Government for considering the company for the job and promised to do a professional job as well as, deliver the contract on time.
