Governor Okezie Ikpeazu today joined other Governors from the South Eastern region of the Country in a crucial meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa Abuja.
The South Eastern delegation which also had eminent political leaders, religious leaders and some Traditional Rulers met with the President to discuss some burning issues affecting the South East, especially the lingering closure of the only International Airport in the region, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu and its attendant consequences on the economy of the region.
After listening to the South East leaders, the President approved an immediate release of the sum of Ten Billion Naira to speed up the repairs of the airport and assured of his commitment to the upgrade of infrastructure across the country.
Other leaders from Abia State who attended the meeting included the Senate Minority Leader and Chairman of the South East caucus of the National Assembly, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, Former Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon Eric Acho Nwakanma, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, His Eminence, Eze Eberechi Dick, Ochiagha Reagan Ufomba, Dame Gladys Nne Nwafor, Chief Mrs Love Ezema, MNI, Anglican Bishop of Aba, Rt. Rev. Christian Ugwuzor, South East Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria, Bishop Goddy Okafor , and others.
Governor Ikpeazu also joined Governors of the states that make up the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to meet with the President on ways to make the Agency more relevant to the developmental needs of the region.
