The governor chief Theodore Orji has warned all those involved in the cartel defrauding the government of huge sums of money in the local government system to desist or heads will roll.
He gave the warning in a meeting he held with some commissioners, Heads of service of the 17 LGAs, chairman local government service commission, town planning officers and treasurers in the local government system.
The governor said he was aware that some civil and public servants were maximizing government funds for selfish gains noting that treasurers in the local government system were particularly guilty of this act.
He stated that the revenue situation in the state at the moment is very appalling and maintained that drastic action has to be taken to redress the situation.
Chief TA Orji who said that Abia state should be generating 2billion naira as IGR regretted that no local government area in the state has disclosed its revenue profile to the state government despite the multiple taxation and many levies they were collecting from people and directed that henceforth all LGAs should be accounting to the commissioner of local government and chieftaincy Affairs their revenue earnings monthly.
He further ordered all councils to disengage all revenue consultants stressing that no council should employ more that one consultant.
According to him ,raising the state’s internally generated revenue remains the way out.
