In continuation of its Executive sensitization of Communities captured in the first phase of the project, the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises Project in the Niger Delta (LIFE-ND), Abia State Office, was at Umuachama Amanba Uzuakuli, Umuhu Ezechi, Isiala Amaelu as well as Ndielu Ukwueke Community, all in Bende LGA.

The sensitization is used to educate selected Communities under the project on all the necessary information about what the programme entails and the benefits attached to participation.

According to the team leader for Bende, Mrs Favour Azubuike, LIFE-ND project is a Federal Government sponsored project which is designed to enhance income, food security and job creation its beneficiaries through agribusiness enterprise development on sustainable basis in the Niger Delta region.

The primarily target of the programme are unemployed and underemployed youth between the ages of 18 and 35 and women who are heads of their various households whose children are still under the age of 15 who must be willing to engage in production, processing and marketing of selected commodities in their States.

She noted that the project will address the growing number of restless unemployed youth in the rural areas adding that it seeks inclusion of young people in profitable agribusiness.

She solicited the support of traditional rulers, community heads and all major stakeholders in the Agricultural sector for the success of the project in the State and called on them to encourage the youths and women in their various Communities to embrace the project with its attendant benefits. Shee said their assistance was needed in the supervision of beneficiaries to ensure they actively participate in training and other preparations for a successful implementation of the project.

In their separate speeches at their various palaces, Eze Azubike Oche of Umuachama Amanba Uzuakuli, Eze Micheal Chima of Umuhu Ezechi, Eze Kalu Okorie of Isiala Amaelu and Chief Paul Okorie of Ndielu Ukwueke, lauded the Federal Government for initiating the LIFE-ND project and for selecting their Communities for the project.

The traditional rulers pledged the total support of their various Communities for the project adding that they would ensure full participation of their youths and women for the programme.

According to the media unit reports, the Abia State Office of the Livelihood Improvement Family Enterprises Project in the Niger Delta (LIFE-ND) commenced the community sensitization in the 100 selected Communities from 10 Local Government Areas in the State on Thursday which will continue for the next two weeks.
