Abia state Ministry of health registers and licenses healthcare facilities operating within the state to ensure they meet minimum standards for quality care and safety, verify facilities’ compliance with state and national health regulations

Training of doctors, Nurses, midwives and allied health officers
Abia State Ministry of health provides comprehensive training programs for nurses, midwives and allied health officer to enhance their skills, knowledge and competencies in delivering quality healthcare services. The training aims to;
  1. Develop expertise in specialized areas of healthcare.
  2. Improve patient care and safety.
  3. Enhance leadership and management skills.
  4. Promote evidence- based practice and continuous learning

Health Data Bank of the State
Abia state health data bank is a centralized repository of health related data, providing timely and accurate information for informed decision making, healthcare planning and research.

Ethical Approval for health related researches
Provision of ethical approval for health related research conducted within the state. Ensures that research involving human participants meets international and national ethical standards, protecting the rights, dignity, and well-being of participants

Immunization Services Surveillance and Disease Control
Protects the population from vaccine preventable diseases and control outbreaks

Sensitization of adequate Nutrition
Educates individuals and communities on the importance of adequate nutrition for optimal health and well-being

Health Insurance and Service delivery
The Abia State Health Insurance Scheme provides financial protection and access to quality healthcare services for enrolled individuals and families

Health Promotion
Abia State Ministry of Health provides health promotion services to empower individuals, communities and populations to achieve optimal health and well-being.

Schools Management

Overseeing the overall operation and management of basic schools, including the posting of headteachers and principals, curriculum and scheme of work implementation, provision of instructional materials, provision of infrastructure, extracurricular activities, and maintaining a clean and green school environment.

Teacher Training (Upskilling and Reskilling)

Routinely enhancing the capacity of teachers with modern pedagogical skills, both online and in real-time.

Quality Assurance

Conducting Whole School Evaluations, School Self- Evaluations, daily school visits, and examination monitoring using prescribed templates. These evaluations provide independent feedback across seven key aspects: teaching and learning, achievement and standards, learner personal skills and participation, curriculum and other activities, learning environment, care, guidance and safety, and leadership and management.

Community Participation and Engagement

Providing platforms for continuous community interface to support school development. Currently, 836 School- Based Management Committees (SBMCs) are functional, implementing self-help projects funded by both the community and the government.

Administration and Staff Management

Overseeing the administration and management of staff, ensuring efficient and effective operations within the board and schools.

Collaboration with International Development Partners

The Board attracted the UNICEF team from Abuja who are ready to support Foundational Literacy and Numeracy intervention in Abia schools. British Council and the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) have also been interacting with the Board to identify areas for immediate collaboration and partnership.
