ABIA CONSOLIDATES ON THE EFFORT ON REVAMPING HER EDUCATION SECTOR
Tailored towards one the policy thrust of the present Abia State Government to reform and revitalize the education sector in God’s own state; the government of the day under the able leadership of Governor Okezie Ikpeazu has entered into partnership with an Australian base education experts who arrived the State yesterday to train primary school teachers.
The training is meant to upgrade the quality of teachers in the State so as to be at par with the global standard of education.
Having a “tete a tete†with Abia Online correspondences yesterday after a meeting with the State’s helmsman, Dr. Ikpeazu in his office, the Leader of the Precious Kids Empowerment, Mrs. Vivian Peters harped that occasioned by the age-long rot in education sector it has become needful and timely to revive the sector and its workforce. She said that the programme will include, the training of the Teachers in four key areas:
1. CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT
2. STUDENT-TEACHER RELATIONSHIP
3. FIRST AID MANAGEMENT
4. SECURITY ALERT
In addition, she informed that the training will be held in the 3 senatorial zones of the State. While its first stage will train some primary school teachers and other ASUBEB Staff who will sustain the trend by re-training more teachers in the sector..
The need to revitalize the education section in Nigeria cannot be overemphasized if our nation must produce superior leaders to take up the mantle to lead the society in the nearby future. There has been various approach by several players in the sector towards achieving this lofty goal though the nation is yet to get to the Eldorado.
In Abia State, the Governor who has made education one of the major pillars of the government’s economic blueprint, has invested huge into the sector. This has started yielding fruits as the reforms are on-going alongside the remodeling of the school system with new courses injected into the curriculum. His approach towards giving education its rightful exalted place has attracted lots of corporate bodies, civil service organisations (CSOs) and NGOs who have indicated interest to invest in the sector.
Sequel to this, an Australian based Education NGO named Precious Kids Education Empowerment arrived the state with the sole aim of upgrading the standard of the teachers in the State so as to align them to the global standard of Education.
The training of the stakeholders in the primary school system in Abia State kicked off this Tuesday, 24th May, 2016 in the three geopolitical zones of the State. The training, among other benefits is aimed at inculcating the best practices, create new idea, remodel the thinking of the teachers as obtained internationally.
The effects of this program on the pupils is to help them in mind mapping, formulate new ideas, become problem solvers, self reliant and actualize their natural talents and achieve step goals.
The program will help strengthen relationship, build trust, and confidence between the teachers and the pupils.
In Abia South, the program which was held at Tenant road primary school had in attendance;
1. Sehera Sumer, the facilitator
2. Vivian Peters, the president of the Precious Kids Education empowerment (Australia)
3. Silver Emeka-Francis, Abia South coordinator
4. Vivian Peters, senior special assistant to the governor on diaspora.
Others are the education secretaries and the representative of the teachers in all the local government council that make up Abia South senatorial district; Aba North, Aba South, Obingwa , Ugwunagbo, Ukwa east and Ukwa west.
