Abia State Sports Endowment Fund Bill has been passed into law

Abia State Sports Endowment Fund Bill has been passed into law.
The bill, which is the first private member bill and the second to be passed
into law in the life of the 5th Abia State House of Assembly came in the
plenary of Wednesday, November 2, 2011.
Announcing the passage of the bill, Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Ude Oko
Chukwu said the law would take effect from the day of its passage.
According to the Speaker, the law would provide for intensive sports
development through the provision of sporting facilities and training of
sports men and women across the state.
Speaking shortly after plenary, the Chief Sponsor of the bill, Hon. Chidi
Nwosu, member representing Umuahia South State Constituency expressed
happiness that the bill eventually saw the light of the day, adding that with
the bill in place, Abia would be the state to beat in future national and
international sports competitions.
Hon. Nwosu who was the former House Committee Chairman on sports said
that the impetus for the bill came from his experience as chairman of the
Sports Committee of the 4th House of Assembly.
He then thanked his colleagues for their understanding and cooperation on
the bill as it went through the rigorous and processes of legislation.
