Abia State House of Assembly has passed a resolution for the immediate removal of the advertisement defacing the Abia Tower

Press Release
Abia State House of Assembly has passed a resolution for the immediate
removal of the advertisement defacing the Abia Tower and also invited the
Commissioners and Permanent Secretaries of Environment and Lands as
well as the General Manager, Umuahia Capital Development Authority to
appear before it on November 1, 2011 at about 11 o’clock in the morning.
This followed a matter of urgent Public Importance raised by the member
representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Hon Martins Azubuike
on the demeaning use of the Abia Tower in Bende/Aba Roads in Umuahia.
Continuing, Hon. Azubuike informed Members of the defacement of the
Abia Tower by the Nigerian Breweries PLC, producers of Star Lager Beer
who has converted the Tower to a billboard by hanging four large bottles of
Star beer with the inscription “Star beer, our own” existing side by side with
the Abia State known acronym “God’s Own State”. He then prayed for the
immediate removal of the advertisement.
In a similar development, the Abia State House of Assembly has considered
and cleared the report of the Public Accounts Committee on the audited
accounts of the 17 Local Government Areas of the state for the 2006/2007
fiscal year.
