The long awaited Abia State International Education Summit commenced today at the prestigious international conference center Umuahia Abia State.
 
A  2-Day event with Theme “Reforming the Education Sector for the 21st Century is structured to set a new agenda; in partnership with government (federal, state and local), donor agencies and international organizations, the private sector and the civil society for a total overhaul of the Education Sector in Abia State. This reformation involves the Ministry, public and government accredited private schools across the State. It will ensure that internationally recognized best standards are set and conformed with.
 
Furthermore the summit intends to chart a new course for the Abia state Education Sector through needed partnerships for adequate planning, policy formulation and implementation, further capacity building, evaluation and monitoring.
 
It is important to note that the administration of Governor Okezie Victor  Ikpeazu under the watch of Prof. Ikechi Mgbeoji as commissioner for education  has changed the narrative of Abia State education sector 
 
Currently,Construction of new Model schools are on-going in the three Senatorial zones of the state, renovations in infrastructure, including digging of boreholes for portable water is going on in many public schools in Abia State.
 
The free feeding program launched by the State Government for pupils in the Primary Schools had increased School enrollment in primary schools in Abia State. Training program for Abia state school teachers to equipped them with modern teaching techniques has been established in the sector.
 
The communique that will emerge from this summit will evolve the new education policy for Abia State.
