Abia Liberation Farms…Things you need to know!

The Abia liberation Farms structure has been approved and funded in response to global agro-economic development that call for the commercialization  of small holder agro investments.

The very interesting aspect of liberation farms is that this concept is also in line with the federal government agricultural transformation agenda.
The General objectives of Abia liberation farms include:
1. Creation of employment for the people, with a target to create employment for over 5000 youths by the end 2015.
2. Increasing the production of capacity of local supply, and through value addition pull on products partnership arrangements.
3. To industrialize the State through provision of adequate supply of agro- raw materials and installation of processing.
Stimulation of competitive prices for agricultural products
Generation of revenue for the State.
ABIA liberation Farms have different strategies for achieving the set objectives, these strategies differ with enterprises. ABIA liberation farms are currently involved in the following:
1. Cassava productionAbia State Liberation Farms 2013
2. Plantain production
3. Rice production
4. Fish production
5.broiler/egg production.
Abia liberation farms, the in-built sustainability nature of plantain  direct investment in plantains across the 17 local government, Areas of Abia state. For other enterprises like Rice grains production, cassava roots production,pig production, poultry and aguaculture,  Abia liberation Farm have adopted the strategy of Public-private -partnership (PPP).
To date, the four (4) hectare plantain plantation you see as a reality, land has been acquired for plantain plantation in Ukwa East while the four (4) hectares acquired for plantain plantation in the Lodu area of Umuahia North has been cleared.
It is the intention of the Librations Farms management to establish plantain plantations in the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia state. From the Livestock Pilot Plot at Lodu, Umuahia North, Pigs and Birds will be supplied to farmers in Abia  state in line with the PPP arrangement.
