Abia State government has discovered the existence of fake pensioners numbering about four thousand, three hundred and thirty four (4,334) in the state.
In a statement by the Chief Press Secretary, Ugochukwu Emezue, the State government engaged the services of a seasoned consultancy firm in February this year to do a thorough job as far as the issue of pensioners are concerned.
The outcome of the work is the revelation of fake pensioners receiving payment from the state government, Emezue added.
According to him the total fund recovered as at February, 2012 was eighty-eight million, seventy two thousand, five hundred and twenty nine thousand naira (N88,072,529.00).
Mr. Emezue stated that the Governor Chief Theodore Orji will continue to focus on the welfare of pensioners in the state.
