As part of activities to mark the 21st anniversary of the creation of Abia state, the state has singled out some prominent sons and daughters for awards for their outstanding contributions to the development of the state.
Among those to be honored as Enyi Abia are
Retired DIG, Azubuko Uda,
Dr. Dike Udensi (dubic),
Prof. Paul Ogbuehi,
The Chairman, Civil Service Commission, Sir Harley Onuoha,
Prof Clifford Ohiagu,
Eze C. C. Ememe,
Chief Anthony Enukeme, M.D, Tonimas though not an indigene of the state,
Eze Irechukwu, Rtd Justice of the Supreme Court,
Justice Ikechi Ogbuagu and
Dr. E. J. Nwaogbo.
Briefing journalists on activities lined up for the anniversary, the chairman of the award committee and elder states man, Sir Bob Ogbuagu said that six women were selected for the Adaugo award which is an equivalent of the Okeoji award.
Among the awardees are
Former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mrs. Ivy Okoronkwo,
Former Head of Service of Abia State, Ngozi Chikwendu,
Lady Eunice Nwankwo
Lady Christiana Emuche,
Lady Victoria Akanwa and
The editor of This Day, Ms. Ijeoma Nwaogwugwu.
Also selected as Okeoji Abia,
The M.D, Masters Energy,Mr. Uche Oga,
Coach of the flying Eagles, John Obu,
Dr. Brown Alozie,
Chief Isreal Amanze and
Chief Chris Nkwonta.
He said that as part of activities for the event, a jumat service will hold on Friday and a lecture entitled “Tapping Abia economic potentials” to be delivered by Minister of Finance, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo Iweala at the Okpara Auditorium, Umuahia the same day.
According to him, an interdenominational church service will hold at the Methodist Cathedral , Umuahia on Sunday followed by the grand finale of the event where the awards will be bestowed on the awardees.
Sir Ogbuagu Ogbuagu said that at 21, Abia has recorded a lot of achievements notable among which is the prevailing atmosphere of peace and security that pervades the state.
