A SPEECH PRESENTED BY HIS EXCELLENCY, CHIEF T. A. ORJI (OCHENDO), GOVERNOR ABIA STATE, ON THE OCCASION OF THE OFFICIAL COMMISSIONING OF THE NKATA-ALIKE-UMUKABIA OHUHU ROAD PROJECT, HOLDING ON THE 31ST DAY OF MARCH, 2012
DISTINGUISHED LADIES AND GENTLEMEN!
We are here today, to perform the official commissioning of the completed Nkata-Alike-Umukabia Ohuhu Road project, which is one of the many roads recently constructed by our Administration.
The road we commission today, stretches through the entire Umukabia Ohuhu community, starting from Umukabia Okpuala to Umukabia Umuagbom, and evacuates to Ugwu-Nkpa, where our Government has already awarded the contract for that road.
All these are in keeping with my promise that no community in Abia State will be left out, as our Administration pursues its road projects, and the opening- up of our Urban and Rural communities. This approach clearly dominates our strategy to the various road construction efforts we have been undertaking in the State.
The beauty of the present road we are commissioning, is that you can connect Enugu-Umuahia Express Road, without a detour to Nkwo-egwu community, or even Umuahia town, while having easier access to Afugiri and Ekeokwuru communities.
The implication is that all the rural agricultural communities within this axis, and the numerous notable personalities within the area, are now well serviced to good roads, connected to Umuahia and beyond.
We intend to continue on this similar trend in our Road construction projects, and ensure equity and fairness of distribution of projects and other services made available to our people, through-out the State.
We will in the same breadth, continue to address all other needs of our people that improve their welfare, and do so through the usual prudent management of our meager common wealth.
For the effective and sustained development of our State and resources, peace and cordiality between our people, especially the political elites, is a sine qua non. I therefore enjoin our people and communities to learn to work together and support each other, for the benefits of all of us.
On our part, we will continue to consult widely with all our people, and provide honest and effective leadership that guarantees the common good and benefit of all of us.
We expect our people to show maturity, and learn to prudently use the road access and other facilities that Governments provide for our communities. In return, we will continue to count on your supports, cooperation and prayers.
